This antique microscope is truly a rare find, and holds historical significance as only a few are in circulation previously used by Charles Darwin himself during his historic voyage, with Captain Fitzroy, on the HMS Beagle in 1831. He pursued his interests in geology, botany, anthropology, and aquatic biology. He took a small low-power microscope on the voyage, and made many observations. As he circumnavigation of the globe on December 27,1831, he studied barnacles, zoophytes, animal kingdom, etc. It is believed that the original modified aquatic microscope was designed by Charles Gould and manufactured by Robert Banks in the United Kingdom. This microscope is in fair condition, certainly showing it's age. The inscription on the side plate displays "C. Darwin, Shrewsbury 1831". It comes with some of the original parts as shown, along with 3 pages of historical notes, making it a valuable addition to any collection. This piece of vintage medical lab equipment falls under the category of rare microscopes.
