The khanjar/koummya daggers are the traditional weapons of the Moroccan Berbers, and serve as a weapon as well as an artifact of social status. Originated from Klaat M'Gouna (the renowned Valley of the Roses) by the ancient caravan "route of the 1000 kasbahs" down from the nearby Atlas mountain, this beautiful artifact has been skillfully struck and carved by a masterful silversmith artisan of the area, who has perfected his art, respectfully handed down from the previous generations. Imperfections are considered an integral part of the beauty of the artifact, but this khanjar stands out in its intricacy, distinguishing itself from the mass-produced, commercial copies of khanjars in the market elsewhere with lower quality of craftmanship with matching lower prices. The leaves and flower patterns are carefully carved into the various segments of silver plates over bronze background, and topped with a handle cut from a smooth white horn. The steel blade has minimal scoffs and no rust. A small cord is hung by the bail rings for display.This exemplary artifact measures approximately 12 and 1/4 inches.
