Daniel Carr: Moonlight Mint "1920-D" Morgan Silver Die Pair 1, Over-strike, ANACS MS 64 Modern Overstrike using a Denver Mint surplus press, on a genuine Morgan Dollar (circa 1878 - 1921). Morgan Dollars were originally minted from 1878 to 1904. After 17 years, Morgan Dollars were minted again for one more year in 1921. For the 1921 issue, the entire coin was re-sculpted and so it has sculptural differences compared to the earlier mintages. No Morgan Dollars were minted with a “1920” date and no silver dollars were produced at the Denver Mint prior to 1921. This “1920-D” over-strike is modeled after the 1921 sculpt. Holding one in hand gives the viewer a true sense of what it would be like to own an original (had any actually been produced). And since these are over-struck on genuine coins, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), correct metallic content, and correct diameter and edge type. All the over-strikes are privately and painstakingly performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press. All are struck on Morgan Silver Dollars originally minted from 1878-1904 and 1921..
