It has been brought to our attention by an Ebay customer that although 3M says that this material is sewable it is, in fact nearly impossible to sew with a sewing machine. There is a glue that attaches the solas material to the fabric backing which gums up sewing machine needles and causes problems with the thread. If you use a titanium needle and periodically remove the glue from the needle with glue remover, it can be done with some difficulty.3M's Care and installation instructions:2. When sewing to a suitable fabric, use thread comparable to #69 nylon or a equivalent UL acceptable thread and sew to a 301 or 3/16" (4.75 mm) lockstitch using 5 to 12 stitches per inch. We do recommend that you test the sewn final product to ensure the results are acceptable for your application. Stitches averaging 7 to 9 stitches per inch would give better tear-strength results.
