It has best mods available on the inside, and it has two added toggle switches on the outside. One toggle switch is for a clipping boost, and the other is for a bass boost. It looks like this: A while back I got a request from Justin Bell from New York for a special mod. He asked if I could install a standard stomp switch for the clipping boost instead of the toggle switch. He said it would be more convenient than having to stop, and reach down to switch the pedal by hand (I agree). I said “I’m not sure. I think I can. Yep, I can do it.” So I did this: Outside: The stock footswitch works just like it always did. The new stomp switch takes the place of the clipping boost switch. This stomp switch adds two more 1N4148 silicon diodes in series with the stock clipping. This gives the pedal a boost in gain, taking it from symmetrical to asymmetrical clipping (it is a boost and it sounds meaner). So I also put a 5mm bright red LED where the toggle switch for the clipping switch would normally be. I chose red because when you hit the stomp switch, the sound is hot! The red LED comes on when you punch in the clipping boost. The check LED is changed to bright blue. Both LEDs are water clear. That just means they are clear when off, and show their true colors when they are on. I left the bass boost toggle switch where I normally put it. Inside: We start with the 808 mods that everyone seems to want. There is a mod that gives this pedal about twice the available gain as before. Another mod helps this pedal to clean up better. Several capacitors and resistors are replaced, some with a different value to give this pedal a huge improvement in tone. We use high quality components like Panasonic capacitors and metal film resistors for less noise.We replace the chip with the JRC4558D. So this pedal will sound like our Mean Ass TS9 in the video clip here...but the controls have been relocated on our Epiphany model. But wait a minute. You are not seriously planning to listen to this video using those cheap, tiny speakers on your home computer, laptop, or cell phone...are you? If you are serious about finding pedals with good tone, I can not emphasize this enough...USE YOUR HEADPHONES! Common examples have led one to shout Eureka! That's how I felt when I plugged into this modified TS-9. I've been searching for that tone my whole life. I'm 36 in 2 weeks, been playing since I was 6. I would call this mod: Modest Mikes Epiphany Mod or The Epiphany Mod. Not to mention it was kind of an Epiphany that we decided to put the gain boost on as a stomp switch! So now you know where the name came from. Justin's friends call him JB. So I guess we could call this one the JB TS9 Epiphany? Hey Mike. Firstly, thank you for bringing my dead TS-9 back to life. I had given up on her after years of inconsistencies... Now, she's back and I must say that the mod is absolutely incredible. The real deal. The clarity is a dream come true. I'm playing an 89 strat through a Fender Blues Deluxe with a slight crunch on the drive channel. With this TS9, I can play solid rhythm that has a good fuzz but not nasally and annoying, just smooth and creamy. I can roll back my volume and get a nice clean with a little buzz going, or I can kick on the gain boost with the extra switch that we added and get a perfect boost to play soaring leads with solid sustain. I can't emphasize enough how pleased I am with the bite mixed with the clarity. It’s an achievement in sonic development. You've improved on this design 100%. Lastly, thank you for your amazing communication through the process. My pedal was shipped incredibly fast. Here I am playing my TS-9, back from the dead, less than a week that I sent it to you.
