These are East German Reinigungsdocht (in english translation “cleaning wick”) made in post WW2 DDR East Germany (cold war production). These look just like the ones used during WWII by the German Military. The differences will be noted below: The original Reinigungsgdocht or cleaning wicks were made from artificial cotton and waste cotton. Every original Reinigungsdocht had 18 wicks assembled in two bands of 9, stitched in the middle, and their length with the twisted wicks was approximately 16 cm, or 20 cm extended. The cleaning wicks were part of the reinigungsgerät 34 (english translation is cleaning device 34). Each kit came with four cleaning wicks. These were standard cleaning gear for German WW2 Infantry weapon systems on every front. The DDR Reinigungsgdocht or cleaning wick are made of the same material as the wartime ones. The DDR wicks have 9 strands in each wick just like the originals. You could stitch two together on your own if you wish. The DDR cleaning wicks are about 12 cm long. Each single cleaning wick is composed of 9 individual strands or wicks, just like the originals. These are super hard to find, and look just like the WWII German originals. Perfect for reenactors!
