The first official computerized version of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) was developed by Robert Heaton, Gordon Chelune, Jack Talley, Gary Kay, and Glenn Curtiss, and published in 1993. Before this digital iteration, the test was administered using physical paper cards, which were placed face-to-face across a table.The 1993 release standardized the digital administration and scoring of the test, which evaluates cognitive flexibility, rule-shifting, and executive control.
