The bushmaster snake coiled around a brush-cutting machete is symbolic of the Canal Zone jungles and refers to service in that area during World War II. Campaigns: World War I, World War II (American theater, new Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Luzon). Decorations: Philippine Presidential Unit Citation (streamer embroidered 17 October 1944 - 4 July 1945).
